Low Kuan restaurant - seafood/chinese food

At Jalan Besar, Low Kuan serves fresh river fishes and prawns. These specialities do not come cheap. The price is based on weight ; usually by 100gms. The jelawat - a much sought after river fish goes for around RM20 per 100gm; patin muyung for RM18/100g and patin ubi for RM8/100g. If you are not too much bothered about seafood, then the sizzling towfoo and other simple dishes are just as delicious where you wouldn't have to pay an arm-and-a-leg for.

The restaurant opens between 12.00nn - 2.30pm and 6.30pm-9.30pm

Sin Hoi Kee restaurant - seafood/chinese food

At the roundabout. This corner shop also serves river fish and prawns but on a cheaper scale. It serves good Chinese food and opens from 12.00noon to 2.00pm and from 8.30pm to 11.00pm. Closed on Sundays.

The alleyway - Hakka Noodles

The alley leading down from Jalan Besar to the Jelai River (Sungai Jelai) has shops selling noodles and rice dishes from their famous Hakka noodles to the ever popular wanton noodles. Take your pick and its not expensive, roughly RM2.20 to 3.00 per bowl.

Centrepoint Cafe - Local and Western

Had enough of stall food? Then try this place for just the sheer pleasure of getting out of the heat and into an air-con environment for a change. Serves local food, a bit of Thai and also some western food.
