Music

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra

When you make that trip to KLCC, make a beeline for the MPO. The MPO is a world class orchestra, a congregation of musicians all over the world. The MPO also hosts world reknown musicians and celebrities. If you think you are not up to a full scale orchestral performance and yet feel you need to immerse yourself in some extraordinary wonderful music, look out for the MPO's chamber concerts. The MPO musicians get together to form quartets and quintets, or band together in a percussion group, or wind, or strings. You can never agree more when they say, good things come in little packages.
Venue : KLCC, Kuala Lumpur
Call: (6)03 - 2051 7007 or log onto the website at: http://www.malaysianphilharmonic.com

Theatre

The recent selection of wonderful plays and musicals brought in from broadway, the west end and the like as well as the local productions has been well received in KL. Fame, The Merchant of Venice, Mahsuri, the scheduled musical Cats are just a few of a long list of musical and plays to grace the grand Istana Budaya (Palace of Culture).

If you're hungry for the costumes, the songs, the razzmataz or even for some drama, some literature, some culture - take a look at KLUE's calender of events and if you need to book or make reservations call: (6)03 - 4025 5932 at Istana Budaya, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

This is where you can get to chomp your teeth into the thick of the local theatre scene. This is where KL's genepool of talents release - in full force - their creative frustrations. All done on stage...what therapy for them and what a show for us!

Mind you, there are also the odd colaboration with out-of-towners as well as some visits from faraway lands. So call for bookings or log onto , www.theactorsstudio.com.my | www.taslot10.wordpress.com

Literature

Silverfish books

Great place to go if watching the evening news doesn't excite you any longer. Silverfish books quite regularly conduct readings by local and foreign authors. Either email them at sbooks@po.jaring.my for more information or drop by at their shop in Bangsar, Jalan Telawi 3, next to Devi's and up some stairs. Or just call: (6)03 - 2284 4837. If this isn't enough information for you, then log onto: www.silverfishbooks.com

Skoob

Okay, once the reading fever is raging we should really fuel it with a greater variety of quality books! Skoob Books Malaysia gets their supply of new and old reads from Skoob Books London but they also have a RM3/RM5 section at the shop for those whose desire is to hoard a variety of 'maybe i'll read them when i'm old' titles and hope that one day the desire is realised.

But the worst thing that can happen when you're on the roll is finding out that the shop's moved and you've just spent an hour braving the traffic to get to Brickfields!

Now, Skoob Books has moved again. This time they've found themselves a place in PJ old town. The new address is: Lot 122 & 123 Level One, Menara Mutiara Majestic, 15 Jalan Othman, Petaling Jaya. If you're unfamiliar with the area, call 03 - 7770 2500. Happy hunting!

Kinokuniya

For bookworms, this is ....paradise! Aisles lined with shelves filled with books for all. (almost all!). Spacious, well laid out and books for all seasons. A cafe upstairs and more books - to end a perfect Sunday evening stroll in the KLCC gardens at the bookstore.
